Frequently Asked Questions

Finding the right practitioner can be quite a task. Here at the Sulis Practice, we offer a range of modalities (styles of working).
We are all registered practitioners and members of our respective professional member organisations.

What is the difference between psychotherapy and counselling?

Psychotherapy tends to be longer term and looks in greater depth at the whole person and seeks to make the unconscious conscious, while counselling tends to keep in focus the problems being experienced, how they may be related to childhood experience and thus dealt with as an adult.

What can I expect at an initial session?

An initial session is an opportunity for you to tell the therapist what is troubling you and what you might hope to gain from therapy. It is also a time for you to ask any questions you might have and, most importantly, to guage how comfortable you feel with the therapist before you decide whether or not you want to work with them.

Is it confidential?

Yes, the therapist will not talk to others about what you share with them, except when they are at supervision and then your identity will be masked. The limits to this commitment to confidentiality are if the therapist has real concerns that you intend to harm either yourself or someone else.

How long and how frequent are the sessions?

Most of the therapists work on weekly sessions of either 50 minutes or a full hour. However, there are variations - either fortnightly or twice-weekly - depending on who you see and what your need is. You can discuss with your therapist whether you have a specific number of sessions or have open-ended therapy.

How much are the fees?

Each practitioner sets their own fee level but they are within the range of £30 to £45 per session.

Can I see more than one of the therapists?

You are welcome to have an initial session with as many of the therapist as you like but you will then have to make a decision as to who you would like to work with. This, of course, does not include the body work therapist: you can always have treatments from them while working with one of the counsellors or psychotherapists.

How do I make contact?

To leave a message for any of the practitioners you can phone Sulis Practice on 01225 834149 and the relevant practitioner will return your call.

Alternatively, you can contact each practitioner directly.
